Welcome to the latest edition of the SI Bulletin! It has been over two years since this publication was last printed and I wanted to introduce myself, Jim Hoston, to you. I have been a member for fours years now and decided I wanted to get involved with the Society more. Being elected, as a member isn’t something I take lightly, but I felt removed from the process. When I went to art school many of us were discouraged from joining the Society because then it represented “A bunch of old guys sitting around getting drunk talking about the good old days”. When I volunteered for the position, I was met with a welcomed response, and I see the changes the Society has been making. Younger members are having gatherings to meet each other and relatively younger people are getting drunk at the bar! The other reason why I took the position was because of what I was guilty of myself: the general lack of minority turnout within the Society of Illustrators.
