Permanent Collection

Dean Cornwell
The Permanent Collection of the Society of Illustrators is the home for hundreds of works of art by many of the greatest names in American painting and illustration. This celebrated collection is ever expanding, thanks to purchase and donation from our membership, art patrons and estates. These works are cataloged with portions of the Collection constantly on display.

In the past, works have been loaned to the Brooklyn Museum, the New York City Board of Education, American Federation of the Arts, the Grand Central Art Gallery and the University of Delaware. In 1976, the Society of Illustrators organized and funded the "200 Years of American Illustration" show at the New York Historical Society. This exhibit of over 900 works drew the largest audience ever recorded by that distinguished museum. In addition, a large format full color book was published that contained reproductions of all the illustrations in the exhibit.
